Beauty Regime for Dry Skinned Beauties

Products I use to keep my skin Clean & Clear:

 By Shikha Koli

Hello girls,

Sorry I have been lately away from the blog. Its just 4 months to go to the D-day, so preps are going on. :D

So this post is on some of the products I use as my usual skin care routine to keep it clean and clear :D

1. L'oreal Dermo-Expertise Pearl Perfect Facial Foam: I have been using this to cleanse my face daily since the last 4-5 months. It has lasted me long because I use a pea-size amount and only at night. Over use dries my skin out so I use no soap in the morning. But I like the clean effect it gives to my skin

2. Cauvery herbal Sandalwood face pack: I don't know have much information about this face pack as my dad got it for me from god knows where. :P But it is very good. It is a ready made paste that you liquify a bit with rose water, milk or toner and apply it all over. Sometimes I even use it as a body scrub too. Gives a cool sensation to the face and smells wonderful. I use this once or twice a week.

3. Forrest Essential Facial Toner in Panchpushp: Got this toner recently and have been loving it. It tones, hydrates and does not sting atall. Suits my dry n sometimes sensitive skin a lot. This toner is amazing and I recommend it to all skin types. It is gentle and does the job well. I use it daily.

4. Forrest Essential Rupam Facial Cleansing Paste: I use this once or twice a week mainly as scrub for face and body. It is one of the best scrubs I have come across. It exfoliates well and smells good enough to eat. I have reviewed this in detail here :)

5. Vaseline Total Moisture Body Cream: Any skin care is incomplete without Vaseline. Vaseline has been around for ages and it is indispensable for us as an important skin care product. People have been using the jelly form as lip balm since ever. Now the Indian markets are flooded with various Vaseline body creams like Cocoa, Fairness, Cooling effect etc. I use this daily..(if I remember too) right after I shower to lock in moisture and keep me hydrated all long.

6. Mabelline Baby Lips: Now everyone has seen the Alia Bhatt advertisement promoting these baby lips lip balms by Mabelline. I'm no fan of her but I surely am of these cute chapsticks. Since I have dry skin its mandatory I have dry chapped lips too. So 'Baby lips' comes to my rescue always and I love it totally. It keeps them moisturized all day long and gives me baby soft lips :) It is tinted but does not give opaque color to your lips but just a slight tint. Since I have pigmented lips it just gives shine to them. Yes...I cannot live without my 'Baby lips' lip balm! :*

So that is it girls for today. Hope you enjoyed knowing about the products I use to keep my skin behaving good and keeping it clean and clear. What products do you incorporate in your daily skin cleaning regime? If you guys want me to review any of these products in depth plz let me know.

Bye :*

Review: Lotus Herbals Nutranite Skin Renewal Nutritive Night Cream

By Tanuja Kelkar
Hi Girlies,
The word "girlies" makes me so nostalgic. Being from a Convent school, this was the most frequently used term used to address others whose names we didn’t know. I was discussing with my sister the other day, and was wondering how this word would have come into existence. If any of you know it, let us know :)

That reminds me that I have been out of school since more than a decade; and that means I am in my dreaded late twenties. :O Now with age, the quality of our skin deteriorates. So, I finally decided to invest in a night cream last winter.

Never having used one before, I sought the help of a Sales Assistant and she recommended me Lotus Herbals Nutranite Skin Renewal Nutritive Night Cream.

My Skin Type: Oily, Sensitive and Acne-prone

The brand claims: It is a luxurious nutrient-rich night cream that helps renew the skin while you sleep. It repairs the damages caused by dehydration and exposures during the day to give a supple and renewed skin.

The packing says that it is suitable for all skin types however the SA suggested that this one Is especially suitable for my skin.

My Experience:
The cream comes packaged in a glass box, which is bulky and maybe inconvenient for some to carry. I have no issues with it though. Some may find it unhygienic too. But, I prefer such packaging as I don’t like to waste even .5 gms of the product. Hygiene is also not an issue for me as I don’t share it with anyone. This cream has a yummy citrus, grapefruit like fragrance which I love.

I had previously tried a couple of moisturizers at night previously; however none had lasted throughout the night. I bought this during the winters and started applying it on a daily basis at night. A small quantity is more than enough to cover my entire face. I massage it gently into the skin and my skin feels supple. I am not sure about skin repair but yes, it is moisturizing and hydrating. In the morning, it does not feel stretchy at all. However, once the weather changed I could not feel the same effect. My skin looks too greasy. So I will avoid it for the time being.

 Pros:
  • Light on the skin
  • Hydrating and makes skin supple
  • Fragrance not overwhelming
 Cons:
  • Not an all-weather product
Overall Verdict
In dry weather, it did a good job on me. However, now with rains and increase in humidity, this cream feels greasy on me. So, I have kept it inside my cupboard only to reopen it post rains. I will surely repurchase it once my stock gets over. Not really a skin rejuvenating product, but a decent night cream.

I would give it 3.5 kisses out of 5 :*:*:*:

Cristian Dior Perfume Gift Set

Review: Christian Dior Les Perfumes Gift Set

By Shikha Koli

Price: $53. 5x5ml
Made in France

Hello Everyone,

As you guys must have guessed by now (no rocket science) that today I am going to be reviewing Dior Perfumes! I dunno whether to be happy having received this luxurious perfume gift set on my engagement by my in-laws or be rattled about reviewing perfumes? See its very difficult and confusing to review perfumes.  Readers cant exactly smell the perfumes on net and the onus falls upon the reviewer to describe the scents aptly so that the readers can imagine what the perfume may smell like. Or you can be like me and ignore the smell reviewing part and just enjoy the beautiful bottles and drool over them! :)

To make matters worse for me this review is not just on one bottle of perfume but a total of 5 bottles all packed together in a beautiful gift pack. Right from the packaging to the miniature perfume bottles which are exact replicas of the full sized versions. All of it speaks of a High-end purchase, class and luxury and why not its Christian Dior after all. Once I am done using up all perfumes, I am going to keep all the little bottles as collectors item. They are gorgeous. :)

So let's start!

Packaging: Its a white hard cardbord purse looking box. On one side you get a shiny image of all the five bottles you will own when buying the gift pack (see first pic) and the other side of the box the box feels like rubberized paper with Dior logo (pic above).

Name of the 5 Dior perfumes and other details

At the bottom of the box all sort of information and details are engraved/printed such as the name of the five bottle perfumes you receive, size etc. A litle booklet is also included with the same information and ingredents list and a special note from the Mr. Dior himself.

The 5 bottles in the gift box

Bottles are placed in the order of the names on the box L-R(Forever, Addict, Miss Dior, Hypnotic Poison, Diorissimo)

Bottle 1 Forever and Ever Dior

It was released in 2006 but Dior re-released Forever and Ever again, in a new, limited edition Forever and Ever Dior and in a new packaging. Top notes are: aquatic jasmine, freesia and ivy. Almond flower, pelargonium and rose are in the heart or middle note. The base is made of vanilla, musk and nutmeg.

The first burst of spray will give you a citrisy and flowery smell, nothing confusing or mish-mashed.

The middle note will linger on and on for a very long time and in my opinion it is the middle note that stays forever and Ever to the last lingering note. Middle note is flowery and citrusy too but more like an incense.

I think this perfume is a very unique perfume. It is different and mystical. It is the type of perfume you might not like initially but as it grows on you, one realizes how unique and lovely this scent it. It is worthy to be someone's signature scent.

Bottle 2 Dior Addict to Life

The new edition of the original Dior Addict perfume from 2002., Addict To Life, launched in June 2011. Addict To Life is described as shimmering, vibrant, indefinable, unique and unforgettable fragrance that focuses on sparkling and intense rose.

The in-house perfumer, Francois Demachy, created this fragrance with noble floral notes, trying to evoke the light and joy of life. The composition begins with pomegranate, raspberry and peach. The middle notes are of rose, jasmine and lily  followed by the base note of cedar and white musk

This is one of my favorite perfumes from this gift box. To me it smells very classic and clean like a fresh morning garden, a breath of fresh air or light flowery breeze. Not like laundry but a little sexy twist. It is something I will wear to a cocktail dinner or a dinner date with a my LBD (little black dress) and stilettos and pearls. However it can be worn both day and night.

A perfume apt for the sophisticated and classy lady. True to its name it is quite addictive and creates a positive atmosphere around you towards life. A keeper for me.

Bottle 3 Miss Dior:

How cute is this bottle? Love the ribbon at the little but since its made of plastic its sharp n pointy and im scared of either breaking it or pocking my fingers with it. :P But super cute design for a missy.

Okie this perfume is the new version of a re-released version. So it's like the 3rd or the 4th version of this perfume with numerous other limited version of this perfume. Its pretty confusing so whatever. I would like to think of this as  the new version of the original Miss Dior Cherie which was launched in 2005.

Top notes are Italian Mandarin. Followed by the middle notes which are Egyptian Jasmine and rose. The base notes are Patchouli and musk. The composition is chirpy and develops step by step. This fragrance was created for the spirited, elegant and 'young woman in love'.

This perfume is perfect for all girls and young female adults for all the special moments in their lives. This is my other favorite from this gift set. To me it not only looks like candy but smells like candy too. So, when I want to smell sweet and cute and lively I spray this on all over me. For my engagement this was one of my shortlisted perfumes to wear for the day but sadly it lost the battle because I wanted something stronger due to the hot humid weather but more about that in another post.

Bottle 4 Hypnotic Poison

Everyone knows about Dior Poison perfumes. They experienced huge popularity and were even liked a lot amongst the youngsters. They smelt absolutely sexy and irresistible, attracted attention with a sexy blend of flowers, spices and gourmet aromas.  Was best used by the night.

I have finished there poison perfume which came in the purple bottle and was my absolute favorite perfume in the world and my go to perfume for the night until it got over. :'( :'( (Hope fiance is reading this and gifts me the purple bottle). I still have the bottle and yes I shall keep it as a collectors item. :*

So now this latest edition by  their in house Dior perfumer Francois Demachy, depicts the devilish side of the original perfume with an oriental twist and composition enriched with sambac jasmine to b in sync with its raw ingredients.

The bottle is shaped as a candied hard apple with dark layers of melted lava. It has some sort of reversed ombre effect. The color scheme goes very well with the oriental fragrance. This perfume is strong and powerful and draws its animalistic nature and depth from raw materials such as  jasmine, orange blossom, tonka, vanilla and assentuated by licorice which is the key ingredient to the entire line of the Hypnotic poison.

However, I was extremely disappointed by the scent. It was nothing like my original one and this perfume just confused me. I seems like it is a perfume out of place. It is something else and trying to be something else. It is not a bad smelling perfume by any means but if you have used and loved the earlier editions than this will disappoint in my opinion but the bottle is beautiful. SIGH!

Bottle 5 Diorissimo:

Diorissimo is a romantic fragrance of the 50's.  It's fragrance will take you straight to the of Lilies. It has a fresh and clean scent and transport you into the dewy spring morning of the woods.

Diorissimo was created by Grasse, France, Edmond Roudnitska with a vision to   create a perfume that would be revolutionary and break the trend of sweet perfumes that were dominating the market. The goal was to simplify perfume’s formula and create a perfume that’s simple and luminous.

Top notes are composed of lilies, yland-ylang. Middle note are composed of amaryllis and Boronia followed by the last note of lingering jasmine.  In my opinion Dior failed in their vision of creating a unique luminous flower smelling perfume. To me it smells like all the other flower perfumes out there.

So this perfume has a hardcore flowery fragrance. If you are a hardcore fan of flower scents and Indian itar, than this is your fragrance. Since I am not into flowery scents this is not my kind of fragrance this is my least likable fragrance from the gift set.

Our Verdict:

This is a nice gift set and whoever receives it will definitely feel very lucky, loved and important and off course luxurious. It has a mix bag of good and very good perfumes. The bottles look stunning. Overall, its a good buy or gift to give to anyone.

However, in my opinion all the older versions of Dior perfumes were better and worth the Dior brand when compared to these newer formulations. All the newer formulations are good but old is gold for me in this case. The sillage is also not that long as the earlier formulations had which could be smelt on clothes even after couple of days. the newer formulations only last about a day. In my opinion, if you can get hold of all the earlier editions and versions of all these perfumes and than grab them over the newer editions. However, these are good too no doubt.

It goes without saying I would purchase the earlier formulations over these or try some other perfumes or gift set, however if I were to buy a bigger bottle of any of these than it would be Dior Addict to life or Miss Dior.

I give it a 4 out of 5
:-* :-*:-*:-*

INTRODUCTION:

Co-owner/ Tanuja Kelkar:

I always wanted to blog and had started one in 2010-11 but soon ran out of topics and nothing took my fancy for long so I quit. Lots of things interest me and I have been always passionate about travel, however lately have also been taking interest in skin care and makeup, all thanks to my friend Shikha, who is by the way the co-founder of this blog.

On this blog, I plan to review various Skincare and Beauty products that I have been using. My plan is to stick to affordable products that I can really use and not buy just for the sake of reviewing. I will try my best to stick to brands that are Cruelty free. In case I happen to review a product which has been tested on animals, it will be one of those that I have purchased in the past, been gifted or have received through one of the many beauty bags/boxes I subscribe to. I vow not to purchase any animal tested beauty products in the future.

I have completed my MBA from NMIMS, Mumbai and am currently a part of the rat race or as Shikha says a corporate slave. :P

Co-owner/Shikha Koli:

I am a slave to nothing except Makeup & Fashion! :D :D :D

I have done my masters in English Literature and B.Ed but that always left me empty and unhappy. So, I decided to make a career out of what I am passionate about and what makes me happy. I consider myself lucky to live a life pursuing my passion thanks to all the support I get from my fiance, family, friends and well-wishers. I love you all! <3 :*

I have not yet undergone any training but will do so asap I move to Mumbai after my marriage. I have a passion for doing makeup on others. It gives me a HIGH! Have been doing it since middle school for parties, festivals and Halloween and that's where I discovered I am not bad at this.

I have future plans to do freelancing makeup in India. Jordana Easy Liner for Eyes - Black v/s Jordana INCOLOR Fabuliner Liquid Eyeliner - Black

By Tanuja Kelkar
Hello Amigos,

My love for lip colour is well known to all of you by now. Let me introduce you to my ex – Colourful Eye liners :) I still do have a soft corner for them and purchase them often. But this time I decided to stray away from the regular ones and decided to buy the basic black. Black eye liners are a staple for every girl and can be used for creating various looks.

Like all make up amateurs, I had bought liquid eyeliner in a bottle which I struggled to apply often. After years of practice, I have somehow managed to learn to apply it evenly on both my eyes; but I still fail miserably when I try to apply it on my mom’s eye lids. I have messed it up so many times that she doesn’t allow me to put it on her anymore :P

All my colourful eyeliners are in a pencil/retractable pen form, which are easy to apply. So I decided to invest in another easy-to-apply black eye liner too.

I recently bought two black eye liners – Jordana Easy Liner for Eyes and Jordana INCOLOR Fabuliner Liquid Eyeliner.

Read more to know if they are a hit or a miss.

I knew I didn’t want pencil form that needs to be sharpened because some of the product also goes waste. I stumbled upon these two - Jordana Easy Liner for Eyes and Jordana INCOLOR Fabuliner Liquid Eyeliner.

Now you maybe wondering why I had to purchase Jordana when similar ones are easily available here by Lakme, Maybelline etc. As I have mentioned in my previous posts, now I purchase only cruelty free brands and also Jordana is inexpensive so I decided to go for it.

Jordana Easy Liner for Eyes
The brand claims that Jordana Easy Liner for Eyes is Retractable-No Sharpening Required, making it convenient and easy to use
Its silky smooth soft glide formula doesn’t tug delicate eye area. It gives excellent color coverage which makes it perfect for all-day wear.
It is available in 13 shades.
Price: USD 2

My experience:
This is a regular packaged Eye liner which is retractable. You need to twist it for more of the product to come out. The liner has a waxy texture, which helps in easy application. A super thin line may not be achievable with it like with all such liners. But I am not complaining. It has a good staying power of 7-8 hours. I wore it to work and it stayed pretty throughout the day. However, if you are one of those who rubs your eyes constantly, then this liner one is not meant for you. This one is super easy to wipe off without any cleansers.

Pros:

  • Easy to apply
  • Good Staying power
  • Creamy texture
  • Glides Easily

 Cons:

  • Not smudge proof
  • Need to keep hands away from eyes after application

Jordana INCOLOR Fabuliner Liquid Eyeliner

The brand claims that Jordana INCOLOR Fabuliner Liquid Eyeliner has a Felt-Tip Precision. It is convenient & easy to use for dramatic eye definition. No Skipping or Dragging required in application.
Price: USD 3

My experience:
On opening the Fabuliner, you immediately see that it has a felt tip. I had applied it on my hand to swatch it and it stayed put till the next morning. It has an amazing staying power. I had to rub quite a lot to remove it. So, you need a good eye make-up remover. But, I saw it settling into fine lines on my hand. But it doesn’t look that way on the eyes at all. Its felt tip helps in applying with precision. There is no need to apply pressure, this liner glides smoothly and it doesn’t feel wet like all liquid liners. You need stable hands for it as it’s difficult to remove it if you apply extra. Though its liquid, it dries up quickly. I need more practice as I have never used a felt tip before.
I know I will have to use it up soon as it may get dried up.

Pros:

  • Amazing staying power – needs a make up remover
  • Applies with precision
  • Awesome pigmentation

Cons:

  • Not smudge proof
  • Will be able to apply it better with experience

My verdict:

On a daily basis, I prefer to use Jordana Easy Liner for Eyes. Jordana INCOLOR Fabuliner Liquid Eyeliner is meant for special occasions for me only because I am lazy to use the makeup removal on an every day basis. As budget eyeliners, both do their job pretty well.

I would give Jordana Easy Liner for Eyes 4 kisses out of 5. :* :*:*:* and Jordana INCOLOR Fabuliner Liquid Eyeliner 3.95 out of 5:*:*:*:
